FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT BRACES

Do braces hurt?
Initially yes, but the tight feeling subsides shortly after they're put on.

How long do I have to wear them?
Each person is different, but the average is 1- 3 years.

How often do I have to come in for a check- up?
Once a month.

How long does each check up usually take?
About an hour.

What foods should I avoid?
No caramel, soda or anything that is very sticky.

What do I do if my braces are poking me?
Put some wax over the sharp area.

What do I do if one of the brackets comes off?
Schedule an appointment right away to have a new one put on.

Do I have to brush my teeth more often?
No, the usual twice- a- day brushing is fine.

Will I talk funny with braces?
Possibly at first, but you will quickly return to your normal way of speaking.

If my teeth look straight after a few months can I get my braces removed early?
You must leave your braces on for a long enough period of time so that the roots
move and the teeth hold their position.

Will I have to wear retainers?
Yes, you should wear you retainers all the time for the first two years and then at
night from then on.

Is there a way to make them less noticeable?
Yes, you can get clear braces that match the color of your teeth so that they
are less noticeable.
